Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) ETH
Academic & Applied Research Institutions
The Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) at ETH Zurich conducts research and offers studies into the condition and functions of environmental systems. It develops solutions and methods for managing them on a sustainable basis. The department’s core activities include analyzing environmental systems – including their relevance to society – and training future generations of scientists and decision-makers in society, industry and politics. Both Environmental Sciences and Agricultural Sciences are offered, each with a bachelor and consecutive master degree. The multidisciplinary cooperation of scientists makes it possible to understand individual processes of different environmental systems: from microscopic scales to whole ecosystems. The five main research areas focus on scientific activities across the department’s institutes: Climate Change, Food Security, Sustainable Resource Use, Biological Diversity and Adaptation and Ecosystem Processes and Services.
